NEAR-SIMULTANEOUS ICU ADMISSIONS AND ALL-CAUSE MORTALITY

      PURPOSE: Prior studies have reported the adverse effects of ICU capacity strain on patient outcomes. There is a paucity of literature about a type of strain that is caused by the near-simultaneous intensive care unit (ICU) admissions. We hypothesized that when multiple admissions arrive nearly at the same time, the ICU teams cannot deliver the same quality of care compared to times when patients with equal severity arrive in a more dispersed time manner.
